Tuskegee Airman. Civil Rights attorney. Powerful advocate for the poor and disenfranchised. Wendell Freeland devoted seventy years to fighting injustice wherever he found it, from the period of Jim Crow to that of Barack Obama. He blazed a trail for racial equality by working largely behind the scenes in America’s courtrooms, boardrooms, and political backrooms.
This half-hour documentary tells the story of a complex, courageous family-centered man, whose long career helped shape an era of historic change from the time his fellow Airmen, the 477th Bombardment Group-U.S. Army Forces were part of one of the first sit-ins, the Freeman Field Mutiny (April, 1945) resulting in a court martial later pardoned by President Harry S. Truman to the successful court ordered integration of swimming pools in Pittsburgh in the early 60’s. Transported to Gorman Field, Kentucky.
